Leo Roth (1914 - 2002)

Israeli painter Leo - or Lior - Roth was born in what was the Austro-Hungarian Empire and brought up in Germany before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1933 he left Germany to settled in what was then British Palestine, and upon the foundation of the State of Israel, Roth became a leading Cubist-inspired artist. In 1959 he won the Jordan Valley Prize for Painting and exhibited throughout Europe and the Americas. Roth’s work features in several international private collections and in the public collection of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the Museum of Art at Ein Harod in Israel.
