Studio of the artist, London/New York
French artist Lyora Pissarro uses the word performative to describe her practice of both figurative and abstract works which are rooted in painting. Currently based between New York and London, Lyora completed her formal education in Fine Art at Hunter College in New York after attending Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for her foundation year.
The often dream like landscapes of Lyora Pissarro’s works have in common the artist’s embrace of her artistic heritage. On the paintings of her great grandfather Paulémile, the youngest son of the Impressionist Camille Pissarro, Lyora describes how she loses herself in the stillness of his landscapes. Belying a subtle complexity that revolves around her attempt to understand the artistic language developed over generations of artists, Lyora embraces both traditional techniques and modern technology.
“I hope to create an immersive escape that will playfully gesture to the meanderings of the creative journey, often winding, sometimes confusing and hopefully uplifting.”
Described as the ultimate young painter in GQ magazine, Lyora Pissarro has held solo exhibitions in both New York and Texas, and her work has been exhibited in San Francisco and London.
