In the 1960s, Corneille developed a body of abstract paintings distinguished by organic forms and an intense chromatic palette. This celebrated period, of which Port-Manech is a part of, is referred to as his “geological” or “mineralogical” period. Related oils are held by major museums, including the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Musée Picasso (Antibes), and the Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique (Brussels).

The title, Port-Manech, refers to a coastal town in Brittany near Pont-Aven, where Corneille returned repeatedly. The area has a rich history and attracted many artists, such as Paul Gauguin.

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Fondation Guillaume Corneille.
