Impressionist &
Modern

Impressionism is one of the most important art movements in the history of Western Art. The term was coined by the French critic Louis Leroy who wrote in the satirical magazine Charivari. His aim was to fustigate a group of artists who sought to depict their personal "impressions" of a scene, thus going against the canon of academic art that had dominated the prior period He called them "impressionist", alluding to them in a satirical manner. The Impressionists exhibited their works of art 8 times between 1874 and 1886. This French movement was about depicting landscapes in 'plein-air' and using new painting techniques to portray light and color. Impressionist paintings are very collectible and sought after. Impressionism is linked to other very desirable art movements such as Fauvism, Nabi, Ecole de Pont-Aven (School of Pont-Aven), Pointillism, Divisionism, Symbolism, or Romanticism. We have a selection of fine Impressionist paintings available for sale. You can purchase original Impressionist paintings and artworks from our online gallery.
